Design Processes for Formed-in-place Gaskets

- Aug 4, 2012

Technical Paper - This technical feature discusses the dimensioning and design of formed-in-place gaskets – both anaerobic gaskets and silicone sealants. The differences between these two groups are highlighted using data from strength tests done to quantify the influence of different environmental factors. The effect of these factors, including temperature, layer thickness, superposition of assembly stress, and surface cleanliness and the material of the assembly parts, is also demonstrated. Finally, the resulting difference in flange design requirements for anaerobic gaskets and sealants is described.
