James Walker Offers Walkersele® Ultraglide Seals for Rolling Mill Applications

SpecialChem - Apr 25, 2011

Walkersele® Ultraglide seals fitted to the backup chocks in a UK aluminium rolling mill are proving to be 'Ultra' reliable with over four years' trouble-free running.

During a recent visit to Alcoa Kitts Green, to carry out an annual inspection of Walkerseles supplied in 2006, James Walker field sales representative Bill Chaplin was proud to report that the seals were still in excellent condition.

Walkersele® Ultraglide seals

The Walkersele Ultraglide K D6 endless seals showed no sign of wear at the lip and there was no evidence of material degradation either. Fitted to the back-up chocks in the August 2006 shutdown, these seals have now been running for over four years.

At every annual shutdown the chocks are stripped and the seals subjected to careful inspection by James Walker personnel - a service which is greatly valued by Ian MacDiarmid, the mill mechanical engineer for Alcoa Manufacturing GB Ltd.

Alcoa Kitts Green is a key site within Alcoa European Mill Products, a leading manufacturer of aluminium flat rolled products with production facilities throughout Europe and a division of Alcoa - the world's leading producer of primary aluminium, fabricated aluminium, and alumina. The company's rolling mills such as that at Kitts Green, supply a wide variety of products for aerospace, transportation, building and construction, engineering, and special applications.
