Andrew Extance
Andrew Extance received his MChem in Chemistry from the University of
Southampton in 1999. After graduation he worked for Tripos, performing
laboratory-based contract research and development based upon the
application of sophisticated molecular modelling techniques. More
recently he has worked as a development and technical support chemist at
ACC Silicones. Since March 2007 Andrew has been working as a full-time
science journalist covering the development and manufacture of
electronic devices, and consequently is the author of many published
articles.

Edward M. Petrie
Edward M. Petrie received his BS in Chemical Engineering and MS in Polymer
Science from Carnegie-Mellon University and his MBA from Duquesne University.
He began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporations Research Center in
the Polymers and Plastics Department. His last corporate assignment was Program
Manager in ABB Corporate Research. As a specialist in all areas of adhesion and
adhesives, Mr. Petrie served as technical consultant to both end-users and
formulators in the operating divisions of Westinghouse and ABB. He, therefore,
has seen many diverse applications, problems, and opportunities relative to
adhesive bonding. Currently, Mr. Petrie is an independent consultant.
Mr. Petrie is author of the Handbook of Adhesives and Sealants published by
McGraw-Hill in October, 2000 and Polymeric Materials and Processes: a Concise
Encyclopedia to be published by John Wiley & Sons in 2003. He has written
numerous papers on adhesive bonding including chapters in several Handbooks. He
holds seven patents. Mr. Petrie also serves the Society of Plastics Engineers
and several universities as a seminar instructor in the areas of polymeric
materials and adhesives.
