Minimizing VOC Output

Minimizing VOC Ouptput with SMP adhesives
Polymer Silyl Modified Polymers
Applications
Construction, Transport, Marine, Assembly
Performances Free of solvents, isocyanates and PVC

The Challenge

In front of tightening legislation concerning the reduction of VOC (volatile organic compound), adhesives manufacturers are working to make this possible in typical manufacturing conditions in all markets.

The Solution

By using SMP-based adhesives, the reduction of VOC is reached by two factors:
- the reduction of VOC content in the adhesive itself
- the minimization of the number of pre-treatment steps involving VOC during the bonding

process

Indeed, the use of solvent to reduce the viscosity was a common process during the formulation of the adhesive. With Simson SMP-based adhesives, no VOC adding is needed to obtain the right viscosity.

In addition to that, most of SMP-based adhesives do not need pre-treatment surface with primer before application. Traditionally, surface treatment involves two solvent containing steps, only one is needed with SMP based adhesive, thereby reducing the VOC output by approximately 50%.

In some cases, when bonding plastics susceptible to stress with corrosion or cracking, the reduction of VOC in the bonding process helps to avoid failures due to combined presence of solvents and mechanical stresses.
